Course Levels and Weights
Courses are taught at multiple levels of challenge. In most courses, students contract for the level of challenge at which they will take the course. Early in the course, teachers explain the requirements for each level. Students and their parents choose the appropriate level in consultation with teachers and advisors. In some subjects, levels are determined at the time of registration. Courses are weighted according to the level of challenge. The description of the course will indicate the number of levels of challenge offered. The numeric grade is multiplied by the GPA factor for the level of difficulty: Advanced, 1.02; Honors, 1.04; College Credit or Advanced Placement, 1.06.
