930 ANCIENT HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY

This one semester course is required for all freshmen. It is a survey of ancient world history with an emphasis in basic geography skills. Students will study the history of the ancient world with particular attention paid to cultures of the early civilizations in addition to the social and political history of those civilizations. This course lays the foundation for future cultural studies in later courses.
904 WORLD HISTORY

This is a full year course required for all sophomores. World History is a survey of the modern era from the Renaissance to the present day. Emphasis will be placed on social, cultural, and political history, as well as economic history.
907 AMERICAN HISTORY
1 CR. 3 LEVELS Jr.
This survey course of the development of the United States is required for graduation. Students will study major topics in American History from the settlement of the North American continent to the present.
910 AMERICAN NATIONAL GOVERNMENT
½ CR. 2 LEVELS Sr.
Using the Federal and Missouri Constitutions, students study the background and structure of the national government along with the ideology of political parties and current events involving government. This course will meet the legal requirements of the state of Missouri for graduation.
913 PSYCHOLOGY AND HUMAN RELATIONS

This course is designed to clarify and explain human development and behavior from infancy through maturity. The emphasis is on you, the individual, and your relation to your family and to other people in our changing world.

This year long course examines the development of the United States from its pre-Columbian origins through the Civil War in the first semester; and the history of the United States from Reconstruction through the present in the second semester. Students will complete introductory coursework over the summer and participate in National History Day in February.
This course may be taken for 6 college credits through St. Louis University (3 credits for the first semester and 3 credits for the second semester). Students register and pay for the course at the beginning of each semester.
922 WOMEN IN AMERICAN HISTORY
½ CR. 2 LEVELS Jr./Sr.
This semester course will explore the impact of significant historical events on the lives of American women and allow students to inspect and appreciate the varied roles women played in shaping American history. The character of American women from colonial times to the present will be our central focus as we study the diversity of women through family life, work, education, reform, and political activism. This elective course will be offered during the 2012-2013 school year.
945 MODERN AMERICAN HISTORY
Prerequisite: American History (may be taken concurrently)

This course is a critical study of the political, social, and economic aspects of the 20th century and is designed to enrich the study of those topics taught in U.S. history survey courses. Through a combination of primary and secondary sources, the student will experience the following time periods: World War, the Cold War, the Civil Rights movement, Vietnam, and America’s role in today’s global society. This elective course will be offered during the 2011-2012 school year.
