The high school years fly by quickly and there are many tasks students need to accomplish in these four years. They enter as young teens who can’t yet drive a car and they graduate old enough to sign contracts!
MO Comprehensive Guidance Programs: Linking School Success with Life Success Missouri has drafted a program which encourages all schools to address three areas of student life: Personal and Social Development, Academic Development and Career Development.
Personal/social development—
- Understanding Self as an Individual and as a Member of Diverse Local and Global Communities
- Interacting With Others in Ways that Respect Individual and Group Differences
- Applying Personal Safety Skills and Coping Strategies
Academic development—
- Applying Skills Needed for Educational Achievement
- Applying the Skills of Transitioning Between Educational Levels
- Developing and Monitoring Personal Educational Plans
Career development—
- Applying Career Exploration and Planning Skills in the Achievement of Life Career Goals
- Knowing Where and How to Obtain Information About the World of Work and Post-Secondary Training/Education
- Applying Employment Readiness Skills and the Skills for On-The-Job Success
At St. Elizabeth Academy the guidance staff works with students and faculty, individuals, groups and whole classes, to develop the successful woman in each student. We accomplish this through:
- College planning
- Career counseling
- Academic testing
We also offer individual and group:
- Counseling for students and parents
- Referrals to community resources
- Wellness and prevention programs
